PROCESS ENGINEER, ETHYLENE

We are working with one of our International Petrochemical Clients, they are headquartered in The Woodlands, Texas.

We are currently seeking a Process Engineer, Ethylene to join the USGC II Project at the Engineering Contractor location. The Process Engineer is responsible for assuring that the USGC II Ethylene Plant design results in safe, reliable daily operations and that the constructed equipment meets process, process safety and environmental requirements.

 The job location will be at the Engineering Contractor office Detailed Design in Yokohama, Japan.  Some additional travel may be needed for FAT or other witness activities.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide capital efficient process design input resulting in safe and operable plant.
  • Lead the development and completion of the process design package considering capital costs, safety, environment, operability, maintainability, and reliability.
  • Help ensure business needs are met in engineering design.
  • Confirm EPC contractor understanding of project design basis and specifications.
  • Assist EPC Contractor through review and/or approval of key engineering documents such as overall plot plan, Piping and Instrument Diagrams, process design and documentation as required.
  • Confirm applicability, suitability, and function of all equipment.
  • Establish and maintain project design specifications and drawings related with process design.
  • Establish effective communication process with EPC Contractor.
  • Confirm design via selective use of independent third-party design verification (IDV). Confirm third party design interfaces accounted for in engineering design.
  • Participates in and provides leadership for HAZOP/LOPA and ensure completion/verification of all action items
  • Ensure that the design development does not interfere with plant operation philosophy.
  • Ensure that criticality rating and Inspection level are complied with and are included in equipment material requisitions.
  • Assists in confirming engineering design meets all regulatory requirements and ensure comprehensive engineering design documentation meets specifications.
  • Assists with the resolution of Project specification and Contractor specification conflicts.
  • Participates in the technical evaluation of critical equipment.
  • Reviews Compressor Curves and related compressor dynamic simulations.
  • Participates in review of P&ID’s, Plot Plans, 3D models, Electrical One Lines for capital efficiency, operability and Process Safety Management reviews.
  • Participates in resolution of process and operability issues between Licensor and Contractor.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering with 10+ years of operations or technical services experience, with 7+ years of Ethylene experience
  • Previous HAZOP/LOPA experience
  • Excellent communication skills, teamwork, leadership, and customer focus
  • Ability to develop relationships with both internal and external customers and stakeholders
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Confidently shares opinions and recommendations.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with an EPC contractor
  • ‘Grass roots” major capital project experience.

 

 WORK LOCATION

  • 18-22 months in Yokohama, Japan
  • International travel outside of Japan may be required
